A Year of Magic is now available in paperback from Barnes & Noble. There is something about holding a book in your hands that makes its stories feel more real—especially when each one is accompanied by original artwork.
Written and illustrated by yours truly, this full-color 8.5 × 11-inch edition includes seven stories shaped by myth, memory, humor, history, and the bond between animals and people. The heroes and heroines travel from the American West to seventeenth-century Delft, from a château in France to the woods closer to home, with animals at the center of every tale.
These animals observe, adapt, remember, protect, and surprise us—and sometimes reveal a little magic along the way. The updated preface offers a glimpse into how I found my way to these stories and why animals have become such an important part of my work. Often, they are the ones telling the stories.
